Blockbuster Introduces SD Rental Kiosks
Posted by: Mehar Gill at Nov 12, 2009 - 4:00 pmBlockbuster rolling out in-store rental kiosks allowing consumers to rent movies through flash cards.
Blockbuster is set to roll out various rental kiosks that will allow customers to rent movies stored on SD cards for viewing. The rentals will cost $1.99 with users providing their own SD cards to store the video file on.
The kiosks hope to combat a convenience problem faced by consumers when renting films. Instead of worrying about meeting the return date the DRM on the films will automatically expire either 30 days after first rental or 48 hours after hitting play.
The audio and video specifications have not been released although Blockbuster is claiming the quality will top that of various streaming services. Video file sizes or minimum storage specifications are currently unknown, it is assumed that the rental will contain just the video with no extras.
